Just hooking it all up for the first time... followed all the directions in the booklet but still have a very loud humming in my headphones... yes I can hear what the lav is picking up but the humming is outrageous... anyone?
Using with T2i
What micon adaptor is being used?
Do you have an extention cable on the microphone?
If so is that cable wired correctly?
Do you have ANY other adaptors in the signal path from the microphone to the beachtek?
Is the gain setting up to high?
Is the beachtek switched to 12v or 48v phantom?
Is the hum still there if you remove the cable from the beachtek to the camera?
Where are you monitoring from the beachtek or the camera?
Is it still humming with nothing plugged into the inputs and outputs?
PS. an old audio joke.... Q. Why is it humming? A. Perhaps it doesnt know the words
have you compared the final recorded audio to the one you were hearing with the headphones?
I've found that monitoring the audio that is coming into the external preamp always sounds much harsher and noisy than the one being recorded. This is if you plug your headphones into the preamp instead of the camera, which is many times the case with DSLRs.
Took it up to a local video shop and had him toy with it too... we messed with it for about 2.5 hours moving all kinds of things around, trying different XLR cables, different settings, even two different lavs... finally decided it wasn't us and had to be the unit. i sent it back to amazon and took a hit because i missed the return date by 6 days... not sure i will go this route again (and i was so excited to have the audio issue addressed for my little attorney bio videos i do for a law firm w/o audio sync in post)... oh well... might try again but don't have to do more bio shoots til april so i'll stress out about it then- ha
Hum generated in a faulty battery-powered device is very unusual ... I'd suspect pickup of power-line / light dimmer / fluorescent light hum due to cable issues rather than something in the unit itself being the culprit. I'd look first at the chain from the lav capsule to the Beach input. Most lav mic capsules are unbalanced, the Beach inputs are balanced XLR - exactly how are you connecting one to the other - what cables, connectors, adapters, power supplies, etc are in the chain?
