the "Artsy" Look

iI usually shoot in the museum of fine arts...use Van Gogh...he has nice bright colorful paintings suitable for artsy backgrounds. Then color currect using fcp, cause Van Gogh could never get his colors right!

Yeah what do you mean by artsy? To me artsy is done with camera angles and lighting, along with color grading in post. Maybe post a frame grab or cite an example from a movie so we know what you are talking about.

Cool, yeah dont be afraid to go and crank the gamma or saturation or any of the other settings in either direction. I think if you are truly going for an artistic look all the "rules" should be thrown out the door and you should just go with it.

then use the "chroma blur" or its equivalent in post!

to help with the blocky reds. Thats in-camera setting specifically designed for video noise and chroma noise...all inherent to dv-25 [minidv]. This happens to all minidv cameras with high pixel counts on the ccd's.

Actually the DVX has a very low count CCD block compared to a lot of other cameras. It is the problem with the DV codec and not the DVX. Apply a chroma blur filter in your editor to get rid of the problem.

TheComo along with custom settings in the camera, and color correction in FCP, you should also consider some plugins. Perhaps the Nattress Film Effects plugins! I use these with my work and it really looks nice when the project is finished. It comes with a bunch of extra stuff too! For $99 you can't beat it! www.nattress.com
