The American - George Clooney

I finally watched this last night. What a refreshing film. I thought the pacing and tone were perfect. Clooney is one of those actors whose eyes do most of the work for him. I predicted the ending on both counts, but I was so consumed with the story that it didn't matter. The relationship between Clooney and the priest was very interesting and played very realistically.

Le Trou (The hole, Jacques Becker, 1960) and Rififi (1956, Jules Dassin) are 2 great movies similar in pace & cinematic experience...
