The Alamo (Need understanding)

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

I'd say that's about right.

Thing is, no-name actors can *very* rarely make successful movies - they can make movies with followings and such, but won't make 400 million at the box office...

I guess that's why it's so hard to make a lot of money off your movie, period. ;D

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

I'd say generally speaking it is a good idea to have an A LISTER attached but I still stand on it not guaranteeing anything. Bad movies are bad movies. Good films are good films. The Jurassic Park films do not have A LISTERS attached and they reap serious cash.

Take a film like MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING that cost 24 Million (including Marketing) and it went on to do : $368,744,044 Worldwide.

If I had my choice? An A LISTER would be in it; but nothign is absolute.

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

Jurassic Park had Spielburg... A-list director... good enough...

My big fat greek wedding was an anomaly... a freak of the standard cinematic business machine... Blair Witch was another... there are a few of these, but if you look at standard movies, an a-list actor is what makes it money... there's hundreds of them made every year... look at a movie like tomb raider... angelina jolie totally made that movie WAY more money than if it was some no-name actress...

You can see that the top actors make the movies money on a regular basis... there are always exceptions to everything though...

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

i think its all about how much people want to have sex with/be like the main star/starlete in the particular roll they are playing, in whatever film they are in.

I think there is far more truth in those words than you might think ;)

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

I'm digging it. Sometimes it's not only what you wish for but how one can relate to character.

by the way, has anyone seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch? :D

"I think there is far more truth in those words than you might think ;)"

yeah man...i think you could break down the A-listers career based on how much chick/guys wanted to bag him/her, and guys/girls wanting to be him/her, and how it realates to his box office performance....take eyes wide shut, what chick wants to screw a guy, who cant get his wife off and is basicly a loser and resorts to seeing prostitutes? and what guy wants to be like that? nothing sexy/apealing about it all. A-list failer...the only reason he did that movie was because it had Kubrick, anyone else and they would have gone..."this movie is SHITE!"

ok, i might be talking out my ass...i just came off a long ass shoot....hanvt eatin anything, and am kinda dizzy. and i have a van load of shite to unload.

peace out beeeatch's!

Re: The Alamo (Need understanding)

That's true, but you also have the hot chick that poses very nude in the film and all the guys want to bang... balances out...
