the actual recording process...

ok, if I went back and forth between a boom, a lav and a shotgun mic - what do I actually record on in order to get the best quality and save the most money? I take it the shotgun goes onto the DV tape, but what should I record the lav/boom onto?

Audio is my bane, any help is appreciated!

Re: the actual recording process...

Is the shotgun on the boom?

A common set-up is boom mixed to channel 1 and however many lavs mixed to channel 2. If the boom is not an option in the shot then move some lavs to channel 1. As the amount of mics used goes up the mixing gets more complicated.

A great book to make audio your friend:

Good luck.

What he said.

If it's still a big issue for you, hire a sound person that knows what they are doing to help you out.

so, do channel 1 and 2 both get recorded onto the DV tape?

Re: the actual recording process...

I'm sorry for the questions, i'm going to purchase that book. Am I going to lose quality recording this way? And when I take it into a video editing program, will the tracks be easily divided?
