That Security Camera Look

For a segment of a movie, I'd like to process the footage in post so that it looks like it was shot with a B&W security camera: Contrasty, low-resolution B&W, timecode screen burn, etc. Any suggestions on how to achieve this in FCP? Thanks so much!

Re: That Security Camera Look

True, but in my case, they have the only thing that I needed, which was the "camera look" plug-in. Playing with the demo, it does just what I need it to do, but the thing must be written in Perl or something... it's not exactly blazingly fast. Time to start saving for that dual G5. :-)

Re: That Security Camera Look

You can already do this in FCP with a little work.

Add Color Correct and set Saturation to none.
Add other filters to degrade image such as Blur or Diffuse (bidirection random)
You can add Blink to get a flicker (high opacity long on time)
Once you get the look you want-
Add time code reader
Add Viewfinder. Has record indicator, etc but shows more of a real viewfinder.
If you wished for a different style you can create a grpahic in Photoshop (along with an alpha channel) and load that in as a layer.
Likewise you could add another layer and use the noise or random particles filters to mix in.

Re: That Security Camera Look

i tried to make the security camera look with fcp and I didn't get the kind of mosaic or big pixel (for low quality) that there is in the sample of plugins....

sweet!

Re: That Security Camera Look

Yes, that was one of the greatest one-liners I've heard in a while. Can we get a rimshot?

Re: That Security Camera Look

Now what if you were trying to make the Viewfinder screen. Could you do that in FCP? What I am talking about would look like the screen in LiveType that almost looks like a viewfinder type screen.

Re: That Security Camera Look

security cameras also have fairly wide angle lenses... so add some distortion

Re: That Security Camera Look

The Foundry's Tinderbox 3 plugin set has one called "bad TV". Seems to work well. Although it's an after effects plugin, you can use it in FCP.
Also, FCP has a built in "viewfinder". Effects>Video Filters>Video>Viewfinder

Or just make your own in Photoshop and comp it in.

Cheers.
