I am using a Mac and FCP and would like to improve the "sound" of the narration to make it richer with more bass. Is the best method to do this simply by adding an audio mixing effect and increasing the bass? What other effects/methods can I use to improve the quality of the narration in post?

The best way is to get someone with a good chest voice to do the voice over. I have seen the results of EQ and even slowing the clip and none of it works IMHO. Voice over is a natural talent, you can improve your own ability or find someone who has that quality you want already. In all things concerning sound listen closely. I'll bet you know someone who could do it well if you think about it. Use a good mic and record it hot. Good Luck!
