In making menus and displaying text... Sony is horrible, or from what I know it is. Everytime I make something I have to make the text huge and ugly to be readable unlike anything I see on TV or commecial DVD's If I try to make my text that small and render to mpeg2 for DVD in "best" mode it's blurry and unreadable on TV (any TV except some HD's). Anyone got any ideas or comments?

Preview your text on a tv before you render your file....so it fits and everythhing....and about the blurryness....keep your text size at 72 if there isnt much text in the one media generator..then jus go to the track motion area and resize it, so then it will stay sharp and clear.

I have a related question regarding text on DVD menu. I would like to make text only buttons and eliminate the rectagular highlight surrounding the activated button. Is there a way to do this in DVDA2 and replace it with an off color or underling of text for the activated button? I can't find an answer to this in Help section or the manuals.

Click on the text once and go the properties area on the right of the screen...and look for Highlight method..or something like that...but it starts with Highlight...then choose the different options there.

Then choose your color for the underline or which ever option u choosed.

There's a great tutorial on Creative Cow about how to get good titles in Vegas. Lots of other great tutorials too. Check 'em out.

I have the same problem with vegas. I have to make my text like size 72 and then shrink it down with pan/crop, then its ok. i never had this problem with vegas 4. What gives?

Once in a while when text, graphics or stills appear blurry I go to options>preferences>video>display at project size and check the box.
Why is that? Why does the box become UNchecked. And is there a way to keep that checked?

couldnt find that tutorial on their site do you happen to have the link :)

I couldn't find the link either :( . They have a terribly convoluted site, but lots of great information. I know it's there, because I printed it out when I was having problem doing titles a couple years ago. I also saw it when I was checking what's new a few weeks ago.

There's a list of Vegas articles at http://www.creativecow.net/articles/vegasvideo.html .

Here's their master list of tutorials: http://www.creativecow.net/tutorials.html

A ha! Found it!: http://www.creativecow.net/show.php?forumid=1&page=/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles/index.html

I agree, I think their site is a mess. There may be a wealth of information, but I've been terribly spoiled by how clean & organized this forum is.

I tried the scaling slider in the text editor but it looks the same once I shrink it down. Unlike when I use event/pan&crop tool, where it seems to zoom out of the text rather than shrinking it, maintaining its large text detail. Although it works, It is a very inconvenient step to go through. I don’t know what they did differently with Version 4 but it handled text much better.

It’s almost like they anticipated this problem and that’s why they start you off with such a large font size when you bring in new text. I mean, who uses size 72 for there text on a regular basis.

also check out VASST.com. They must have had some kind of vegas titles contest and you can download the templates for a lot of cool titling methods.
