text effect?

I am sure that most everyone here is familiar with the show ads on comedy central...they are very creative and well done. What I am interested in is the 3d-text that they do. They have the text and move it on the z axis toward the camera and behind the text is left a trail in the same shape of the text?? how is this done. If anyone has seen the skate video "Yeah Right", they also use this to show the name of the skater they are introducing.

Do they use zaxwerks 3d text tool...or do you even need a plugin??

Anyone know how to acheive this effect?? Thanks!
 
I think i know what you're talking about. you can do it by using the echo effect in AE.
There is a very helpful tutorial online . I have tried it to do text only and it works just the same.
The only downside is that it takes time to render specially if you have a slow computer.
If you are familiar with AE it won't be difficult to implement in your project.

FYI, if anyone is interested, I actually a great tutorial online for this very effect...and he uses the same example I was talking about...the "yeah right" video.
