Hi,
Here is a video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fltxq04SjN8&feature=youtu.be

0min to 36 sec = rode lavalier + juicedlink into a canon 60d
36sec to 53 sec = rode lavalier + audiorecorder into a canon 60d

The sound of the lavalier sound different. We hear that the juicedlink seems to add a boost in the sound. The segment without the juicedlink, the voice appear different.

Which of the 2 segments of the video do you prefer in terms of audio ?

any comments would be much appreciated !

Thanks in advance
Have a good day,

Firstly I prefer the second audio but I think there is something else going on as it sounds like the canon 60d camera mic for the first 36 secs and not the rode lavalier!

What do you mean by "rode lavalier + audiorecorder into a canon 60d?" Where did you actually record the audio that was used in the clips? Are you feeding the mic into the recorder and sending a recorder output to the camera from there, using the recorder as a preamp, or are you recording to the audio recorder and syncing in post?

1st sound : rode lavalier plugged in the juicedlink and the juicedlink plugged in the canon 60d.2nd sound : rode lavalier plugged in audiorecorder pcm-m10, and the pcm-m10 plugged in the canon 60d.i recorded the audio indoor in the living room.i feed the mic into the recorder and send the recorder output to the camera. (i leave the camera record volume to 1 or 4 notches from the bottom)Yes the 1st segment sounds better. Maybe i should invest in a juicedlink. What you guys think ?Thanks in advanced,Deleuze3

I would double check your test. The first segments sound like you are a few feet away from the microphone. The second portion sounds like you are about 6 inches away. Done properly and everything else equal, I doubt you'd hear much of a difference (due to youtube compression) between a rode lavalier --> juicelink --> camera and a rode lavalier --> pcm-m10 --> camera

If I had to take a guess, I would say that either the lavalier was moved in between segments, or you thought you were recording via lavalier on the first segment, and it was actually via the internal mic on the 60d. The second segment sounds like it could be the lavalier, but it was probably clipped up by your throat, so you are getting a nasally, bassy sound.

And for a final thought, if you have a Sony PCM-M10, I would just skip the juicelink and recording to the canon 60d all together. Record audio to the PCM M10 and then sync later.

No audio is going to sound very good recorded on a DSRL.. no matter what mic or preamp is used. (depending on your expectations of 'good')
That said, some folks use a Sescom DSLR audio interface to go from the external recorder's output to the cam's audio input (mic level).

I'm with the others, those are not the same and the difference is not the jucelink. The first is either a very different mic placement or your connector wasn't in properly and the DSLR used it's internal mic. It's much farther away and noticeably noisier.

Also if you are going to do a test like this you really should record the same thing in both tests.

The juicelink sounds like it has cleaner pres but as others have mentioned the test is very unscientific with too many variables to do a good side by side comparison. Even if the jusicelink is technically better, recording to DSLR is not the best idea unless you are in a run and gun situation so you might be better off with the Sony.

At that price range, I wouldn't worry too much about the difference in audio quality, spend more time (and maybe money) working on your recording technique instead.

The mic placement was probably not the same in both tests. Ok.

here was my audio set-ups :
I plug a rode lavalier into a pcm-m10 audio recorder with a 1/8'' cable.
The audiorecorder is plugged into my canon 60d with a sescom DSLR attenuator cable to reduce noises.
(the canon 60d audio is set 1 notch above off).
(the audiorecorder audio is set to be about -12dB)

If i understand you correctly guys, i wouldnt have advantage to use a Juicedlink. I would not notice any better results, especially if its going to youtube.

Is SESCOM cable with a pcm-m10 can create as clean audio as using Juicedlink ?
Thanks in advance,
