Tesla Powerwall Debut

i love the idea of making my home more energy independent. the main problem i see with the powerwall is that it's not powerful enough. it only provides 2.0 kwh of continuous power, which means i would need at least 5 of them.

10 KWH - for one power pack. ($3,500 U.S.) You can link up to 9 units - for 90 KWH.

Freakin' awesome. Thanks for posting, I've been waiting for this announcement.

These guys and girls at Tesla are true Rockstars. This is the type of Entrepreneurs the world needs. I hope they succeed. If I was a US citizen or if they Kickstarted this, I would definitely contribute to it.

We already did, to the tune of $465 million.

They paid it back 4 years later.

I've spent some time in a Model S - they are absolutely amazing pieces of technology.

in other words: with a fraction of the money we are spending on the military we could make the entire planet energy self sufficient? madness...

As filmmakers or people working in art or expression, I think its difficult for most of us not to "feel" this Tesla's presentation and imagine a different world . Unfortunately, this romantic vision of the world is not shared by many, and economics, interests, etc will try to shut it down. But it creates hope!

I'm so getting one of these for my house. For less than my panels and inverter cost yet save me more money more quickly.

But it also makes me wonder, is this the beginning of the end for generators on location? If it can power my house then surely even one of these can run some lights and video village for a little while. Silently. And with a large enough array the whole damn thing (on a sub Michael Bay production) all day. And yet be transported on the back seat of a car instead of a trailer.

problem is these energy pack rely on some rare metal that we already use for billion of electric gadget (including mobile phone).
some scientist calculated that there is not enough of the product to make even 10% of the the cars on earth running with batteries.

i have been using these: goal zero yeti 1250 for a while on location...works great and charges either through panels or just in the van to and from location....but they are limited in terms of what they can handle....
the idea of taken one or more of these power walls on the road is actually pretty interesting....

Apparently there's already a company licensing some of the technology from Tesla that when combined with some of their stuff can produce batteries which are 37% more efficient for less than 1/3 of Tesla's costs. Perchance does anyone know the name of that company or have a link of some kind?
