You're actually half right.
1/2 right where skytnet takes over, but 1/2 wrong with the resistance. My opinion Matty, let me explain.

The problem is, I don't think the story can be moved forward without backing up big time and starting over.
I'd like to see that happening, but as a back story. So we can see how the tech development led to what is now known as Terminator.

I want to see the beginning. Then, knowing that, we can watch the whole franchise unravel again later while watching the older movies.

First big problem is Arnold won't be available anymore for the fanchises. So you'll have to do it without Arnold at least.

But story wise, I'd like to see a back story. The development of Skynet. The monsters coming of age, and
the impending threat, which, ofcourse' leads us into the older franchise.

//edit: oops. Same as aliens. I don't think the story can be taken forward. It neesds to start over again. And build up into the current state of the franchise.

Back story baby. That's the ticket for me.

It's better not to think too much when time travel is involved.

In fact, it's better not to think at all, otherwise your brain will explode while trying to figure out "why don't they just..." scenarios.
 
Lionsgate bid was $15M, I don't know what the other bids are so far but they should be announced soon.
