Teradek 500 vs. 500XT?

Sizing up several near-future projects, I should really add one to my kit... but which?

I note that the XT version is newer... but oddly, rents for less via LensRentals.

I can currently get a used, ready-to-go 500 Vanilla SDI/HDMI kit for ~$1400... or I can get the XT SDI/HDMI new for ~$1600 with the battery plates... so it seems like the older unit may be holding a significant amount of its value?

Any reason not to choose the 500 over the 500XT, or vice-versa?

That's a LOT cheaper than what I paid for my SDI/HDMI 500 XT's at the end of '18. The kit was over $2300 then, and I think it had just had a price reduction to get it there. Then almost $400/each for the A/B battery plates/mounting brackets. The XT's are newer with supposedly less delay.

They're probably just trying to move stock and eventually get everyone on the "4K" systems.

Most likely... but 1080 will do me for the budgeted future.

Any experience using one vs. the other? Why on earth is the older system more expensive to rent?

Passing along learned wisdom (from calling LR directly):

In use, there's little practical difference between the two units; however, the XT's will work with some current and future products (eg, the SmallHD Bolt monitors) and the older 500 will not. So, if available for ~even money, the XT makes more sense.
