Tentacle Track E Now witth Remote Monitoring

We will have to see what it does first. If I can monitor 4-5 units on a pad, the only other thing I'd have to figure out is how to provide phantom power to the boom. A bit of a hassle not having a polyfile, but I'd live with it.

I hope this means monitoring as in listening via headphones. If so, and US versions remain crippled, I for one might have to look at overseas retailers.

I'd guess this would be over bluetooth. The likely latency might be no big deal, but the range might. Also, considering that in the US version of the Track E, "Headphone out is deactivated during recording," we'd probably need some changes in the Zaxcom patent situation...or they'd need a license from Zaxcom (as we've discussed A LOT here).

The only info I've seen on this is this line on the Tentacle site: "[At the Tonmeistertagung conference in early Nov you can] get a first glimpse of the new TRACK E firmware, which now offers audio-monitoring for Android and iOS devices. The firmware will be available some time later this year."

And note that Tentacle says the next batch of Track E recorders is expected in early or Spring 2022... Perhaps some dealers still have a couple? But a bummer for them and us.

Did anyone here visit Tentacle at Tonmeistertagung (to my understanding an established conference kinda like a focused AES conference)? Or otherwise know more about what Tentacle is up to?

It's not refering to the physical headphone jack on the Track E. It will be via the app. And I guess right now, we can only presume that this will apply to US versions.

Jule from Tentacle said they're working on the US version. The only thing I can guess by that is they're either working out a deal with Zax or they don't care about the patent anymore. I'm going to assume the former since they've said in the past that they're concerned about being taken to court.

Agreed, wouldn't it be nice to have 32 bit float, and be able to monitor via headphones plugged into my phone, in US!

Or maybe they will have a US version that lets you monitor via smartphone only when the device isn't recording. That could be kind of handy while rigging and stuff... Will be interesting to see what happens...

Just downloaded the Beta firmware for monitoring wirelessly on the Track E available to all. I have European versions only so cant say anything about the US versions. A couple of minor issues but its a great thing to have. There is phone speaker monitoring and phone earpiece monitoring. Earpiece monitoring you put the phone to your ear and you can monitor wirelessly through the phones earpiece. Speaker monitor setting lets you monitor thru the phones speakers and through the bluetooth earphones I attached. Having only spent a short time with the app both work no problem when in standby and in record mode. A non scientific , about a 1 second delay in monitoring exists. Also when the iPhone screen auto locks the monitoring shuts off.Tried monitoring two track e's at the same time but can't monitor both. I can only switch between each track e. I applaud tentacle sync for going all in by adding a much needed feature and making a great device with a great app.

*: just a small update in case anyones interested: used a lightning to 3.5mm adapter to connect my wired pro sennheiser headphones to phone and worked and sounded great.

Thanks for the tests. I'm assuming range is similar to other bluetooth devices that are paired with a smartphone?

Planning to wait until it comes out of beta but good news it's stable so far. Can you revert back to previous version if you update?

Range is bluetooth. Approx. 30ft. I walked away around that distance and it cut out.

As it is basically this just gives you more flexibility to find out if there's any rubbing lav noise that might need to be addressed. bluetooth distance and the 1 second delay are its limitations. Nonetheless I wouldn't want to live without it.

Reverting to older firmware you'll have to ask tentacle .They said update was due this year so not much more waiting time.

I cannot confirm this. But it also seems that from posts I've read elsewhere that this works with US models. Maybe bluetooth transmission isn't part of Zaxcons oppressive patent. Fantastic
