Tennis news for you tennis junkies

im going to play tomorrow...i am going to keep track off how many times i go "SORRY!" as i wake a ball into some other peeps court...

There's a joke about an extra stiff Head (tm) and some fuzzy green balls... man I wish somebody would make that joke.

I've got this really great Head racket that I paid a sh*t-load for and I mostly used it for hornet control in the backyard this year. There is NO better defense from a hornet then an oversized tennis racket.

Graf was awesome.

Rich thats too funny man!

I'm getting anew racquet for XMAS:

Either:

The Diablo

The Shark (I've been demoing this for a week and it rocks; never have hit with so much control)

Or one of the 2005 O3's

Wow... back when I first started playing Tennis 15 years ago the Prince rackets were the ones to have. So they still are huh? Recently I wanted a Wilson HyperHammer 5.something (the budlight is keeping me from remembering the decimal)...

When I was a kid if you had a white ceramic Prince racket you were the sh*t. I remember that was the first racket I played with that made me realize that tennis elbow wasn't automatically part of the game.

EDIT: The name of those old Prince rackets just popped into my head like somebody put it there... the rackets were called Spectra Comp II's.

You know what?

I had my eyes set on the Babolat Pure/Aero drives (used by alot of the top players right now and probably the most popular of the models) and it just didnt vibe with me; a little too stiff for me.

-- FYI Tennis Elbow is from hitting the ball improperly; with your elbow NOT bent or near you side)

This is the key:

Goot a keep the elbow at 90

Hi Pooh! (?Que Pasa)

Playing great; I play Thursday night (That dude will be there; but he's gonna pay). i played Thanksgiving day and blew my bro off the ocurt in 3 sets (It wasnt as close as the score sounds)

I cant believe I took off like 7 years from the sport; what a drag.

Here ya go MattinSTL

A list of the current TOP 20 Mens Players on the ATp Tour and their racquets. Prince is still in the game but Babolat is all the rage

Here's my raquet (don't laugh it was a good raquet 6 years ago):

Head S10 (felt too springy from Day 1... wish I'd have returned it and got the Hyper Hammer 5.3).

You can tell I'm not a very good player by the raquets I like and can afford. I've always wanted to string a raquet with Babolat Natural Gut... just to pretend like I know what I'm doing.:cheesy:

Hey is there anything wrong with 6 year old raquet designs? Does the construction "dry out" or something? I just purused some sites and I can't believe how cheap you can get a HH 5.3 now... I'm tempted to get one for the hell of it... plus that Head I have is a trampoline.

The Head Flexpoint line of rackets. That's the way to go. I thought I'd never switch until I played with them.

Women's tennis is a curious sport. Hingis has followed a growing trend. Become super-awesome, win everything in sight, the world predicts that you'll become the greatest player ever, then disappear into obscurity because of some random occurance.

See:

Venus Williams: health
Serena Williams: acting
Hingis: foot problem
Seles: Getting stabbed
Capriati: Getting crack (although she did actually recover - only in tennis can you make a comeback at 18, 23, and 28).

Who's next?

I'm ranked #5 in Top Spin, which I just started playing three days ago. All fall before my mighty cross-court forehand!!

Holy crap; is that a 115sq. inch head ?

Hey man; I just dusted off my racquet from 7 years ago and am starting to get back into it! Don't stress it!

And 6 year old designs? I think so. OUr current racquets are almost a decade behind in graphite and composite technology; think about that. (Which is why I'm shopping for XMAS!)

Agassi is still #7. That's something.

Awesome is'nt it? Who would of thought 10 years ago he's still be mixing it up? It appears he's going to commit to one more year (2006); great news!

I hit with the Agassi model and found it too stiff for my liking (similar to the Babolat).

It was great seeing Monica come back to the tour; too bad though; how many would she have won if not for nut boy ? A true sporting tragedy.

The Williams sisters have never really left the game so I can;t say they have made any kind of comeback. They're just not the dominant factor on tour any more. Womens tennis is weird; you have each one, Venus and Serena win a Major in 2005 but today they are outside of the Top 10 (10, 11 respectively).

Capriati is my favortie female player; she is slated to come back in 2006 but I can;t imagine making too much noise. Although there isnt a girl on the tour that wants to play her; she is one of the hardest hitting women in tennis. It would be second comeback wouldnt it (after shoulder surgery?)

it's very easy to lose track with what comeback number these players are on since the tennis schedule has no off-season and people get injured every month. what does it say when 5 of the top 10 men do not show up to the season ending Masters tournament, the tournament with the highest payout of the year? If tennis wants to stop all these injuries, they need to shorten their season. But it will never happen cause some small country will always hold a tournament and players will always go to play it.

For Capriati it's plain and simple. If she gets in shape, she's the best in the world. If not, she struggles.

This post is the fantastic John. Just a couple of weeks ago I was talking about taking up the sport again.
You've done my racquet research for me.(I'll try the top five racquets).

I like the old school tennis - Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander. And the pluck of Michael Chang - I've never seen a pro play with so much determination.

Up here they used to play a pro tourny at my club (Sun-Life), so back in the day I caught a lot of the pro's. What i've noticed, when I've played is how quickly everything comes back (all the subtleties) except for the accuracy :)...

We used to have a lounge, that looked into/over all the main courts. Somehow it made you play better knowing your commrades were having a beer watch you play. I think I'll start playing the womens 3 sets, instead of the five, though i'll skip the skirt.

Cheers.

I'm sorry but what the world of tennis REALLY needs is another John McEnroe.

That's old school tennis when it was FUN to watch.

Hard to say -- she's never been in shape long enough to show that definitively.

Can't really make a claim to "best" if you can't keep yourself in shape. That's as much part of the sport as anything.
