Teleprompter Apps

I have been considering developing my own app for a couple of years now but keep putting it off. Never really sure on the market potential of such an app. I build mobile apps at the company I work for so most of the knowledge to build the app is there, just lacking the motivation or incentive to do so.

Your research could help steer a potential app in a direction that covers most of what was pointed out as pros and cons.

I did start working on one once but it required a server to sync the live data between devices. This is perfectly fine and the method I used for years for the live event streaming software I developed but can also be a reoccurring cost to myself. I still need to workout a reliable way to use a direct connection between devices.

Been using ProPrompter probably since it came out. I travel an iPad with mounting bracket from Bodelin(they make the software/app) and a Noga arm for mounting on the cam. I have the app loaded on all my iPads, iPods and my iPhone. A lot of my producers (and some talent) have it loaded on their iPads and iPhones, as well. Nothing beats 'rock star' talent that can memorize and nail it in one take, but when you're in a time crunch and have stat-heavy scripts(like in sports), it's a God-send.

Just make sure that all connected devices(we use the iPad for the screen and an iPhone for remote with the script loaded) are up-to-date with the same version. We have had instances when an iPad and iPhone had different versions that weren't playing nice with each other. And, if you're outside in the bright sun, an iPad can be tricky to see. Thankfully you can change the background and font colors, which can help, but it doesn't always...

Are you using just the Proprompter app or Proprompter Studio?

The link to your review of teleprompter apps isn't working. Is it still available for viewing? What did you finally conclude was the best app? I will be using an iPad.

+1 for ProPrompter, I have been using it since day one and same setup, iPad and iPhone control. works well.

Can you mention the parts (clamps etc) that are used to hold the ipad and the software in one post so that it will be easier. Are there any android versions of the proprompter app?

The Pad Prompter mentioned above really is solid for the money. I put a quick release plate above and below the rails (on a couple cheese plates), which makes snapping it in a breeze. And if you take out the Ipad holder, it actually fits a 12" Ipad Pro quite nicely. Just used it on a teleprompt heavy gig with over a dozen talent on various days indoors and out, using a C300II and 17-55mm.

As for the app, ProPrompter Studio is the way to go. Simple and effective. Teleprompt+ used to be decent but is so bloated nowadays it's a headache.
