Hi,
Does anyone here know if there a telephoto adaptor that is more than the 1.6x that century makes? I do alot of wildlife stuff and it would be nice to get something like a 2x lens if it exists.

Re: telephoto lens.

as far as i know the century is the only tele extender out there . i bought one last year to shoot some surfing that i am not using any more because im shooting my surf stuff in 16mm now,so im thinkin about selling it if anyone is interested

Re: telephoto lens.

Hey Lurch, I could be interested, if you may be willing to ship to France... and assuming, obviously, that your converter is in pristine condition and has in no way been affected by your shoots by the ocean. The 10x zoom, in my opinion, is the DVX's major limitation, so please let me know what price range you're contemplating ==> monglane@wanadoo.fr

Thanks in advance !

Re: telephoto lens.

Guys cant understand the slang what does ghetto mean? is it the same as khosa? ie is this digital optics lens work or is it a load of crap?

Re: telephoto lens.

it probably works.. it probably works like a load of crap. so the answer is "c" all of the above.

p.s. ghetto means "slum like" or degenerate, but can also be used for other connotations. even good things.. its sort of a universal slang .. if you add "izzo" on the end it can mean absolutely nothing. or if you add "liscious" to the end, it can mean "hot mama" or the like.

Re: telephoto lens.

see above post

the issue is that anyone with knowledge about lenses knows your not going to get a good lense for that price, from some "Ghetto" company through e-bay. i doubt that anyone has actually ever used it, but if youd like to be the first to spend 100 bucks to buy the thing and then tell us for sure that its a butt stink, then mo pawaz to you. who knows , it could work ok for what you need, but i would rather spend my money opn a product that i know is a quality product, and will perform to the standards that ive come to expect, and is backed with proffessional service and support.

Re: telephoto lens.

And, again, let's repeat the famous phrase: "Never save money on anything that goes in front of your lens."

Why get a $3,400 camera, with a Leica lens, and then stick a $100 "ghetto" piece of glass in front of it? If you spent the money to get the camera so your images will look good, putting junk glass in front of it makes no sense.

Re: telephoto lens.

true true treu. if the thing was 20.00 it might be worth the trying and crying, but at 100.00 its probably money to the wind.

Re: telephoto lens.

Is there any alternatives like for example getting a step down ring and then buying a 2x teleconverter that century make for the sony vx2000?

Re: telephoto lens.

you can do it, but any time your stepping down, your likely to get vignetting.. cause the dvx lense by nature is a wide angle lense. someone on another thread did that very thing, and was having issues with vignetting, unless they were zoomed in. its sort of an obvious thing, if you stick somthing in the feild of view of your lense, its going to get in the frame.

Re: telephoto lens.

depending on how far you have to zoom in to avoid vignetting that might be the better choice. the telephoto made for the dvx vignettes up until z60, its double the price, and its only a 1.6 versus a 2.0. i bought the tele to shoot surfing and sometimes it still not long enough, i wish i had thought of trying something with a step down ring

Re: telephoto lens.

I use a 3x tele extender left over from an old cannon A1. It's a 58mm, so I have to use a step-down ring, and yes it vignetts when zoomed out, but then I wouldn't put it on to zoom wide anyways...

There is also a light loss, something like a stop and a half.

I only use it for special shots (obviously), but many of those have made it on my reel.

Here is a link (I found a bunch) to ebay with a 52mm 3x for sale...

Re: telephoto lens.

J when how much of the zoom range do you have to go before the vignetting disappears? and how well can you focus with the adaptor on?
