tekkeon powered hvx

It wouldn't be very cost effective or convenient. You would have to use the HVX's AC adapter in place of the battery and then plug the Tekkeon into the AC charger. It would just be a big mess.

The camera has an input for dc power and the tekkeon will provide 7.5 volts. I would feel better about plugging in an adapter solely on the basis of fit if I knew someone had done it before with success.

I use a cheap AC adapter by just plug it into the HVX.
Works fine - so I asume it would work the same with the Tekkeon.

Just to be sure this is all shared with the community I'll post the basics of the info that was E-mailed back and forth between I and Al:

To be completely sure this can work do the following:
1. just take the tips(not on the tekeon) and find one that fits.
2. remove tip from HVX and hook into tekeon
3. set voltage on tekeon to 7.5 volts
4. take a volt meter and insert positive probe into middle of tip
5. touch negative probe to sheath of tip
6. look at voltmeter and as long as it doesn't read a negative amount of voltage you are ready to go

Now as long as everything is ok as described above you can go ahead and use the tekeon with that tip.....the only way you could mess something up at this point is by setting the voltage to anything but 7.5 volts. You do need to make sure that EVERY time BEFORE you hook in the Tekeon that you set the voltage....the battery does not "remember" the last voltage it was set at...it needs to be set up each and every time.

Also once you've worked everything out at no point EVER should you first insert the tip to the HVX, and then hookup the tip to the tekeon.....it should always go like this: First hook in cable to tekeon, then hook in tip to cable, then set voltage(7.5 volts for HVX), then attach to HVX.

Oh and to clarify, I do believe this is a cost effective option. You can pick up the basic Tekeon for really cheap, and then the accessory battery which doubles the capacity can be picked up for even FAR cheaper. It's a heavy sucker once you have both the main and accessory add-on hooked together, but If I remember correctly I was able to get both for under $180 shipped from E-bay.

I know overall with both the 3450(main unit) and 3450-10(add-on) it's 100wh of juice....I'm not sure what that is compared to panasonic 5400mah batteries(which I have 3), but I know it's more then twice what one panny 5400 can do, and those bad boys cost $150 each........and the tekkeon is an odd enough product that when you buy it off E-bay you know it's a tekkeon and has the full quality of tekkeon.....cheap panny purchases anywhere are difficult at best, and your more likely to end up with a cheap knock off battery that will last 6 months(if that and loose useable time within that frame).....I've primarily used my tekkeon for steadicam and audio recorder power for over 6 months(and it's holding a good charge still) now and I'm as happy as punch with it :)

I went down to my local Harbor Freight and bought a multi meter for $2.99...the sales clerk tried to sell me an extended warranty.

The tip that fit the HVX was too small to accept the positive probe, but the other larger tips all conformed to the center positive config so I am good to go...thanks again.

The probes can be easily modified by just wrapping a small sliver of copper wire around it, taping it in place, and then using this small wire as a probe.

Good deal on buying a multimeter, they can come in very handy. I have an old school analog and a more modern digital, and I don't think I could do half the crazy stuff I do without that and my soldering iron.

LOL to the warranty....prolly cost more then the meter itself!
