Teen shoots a film for under $5k on a DSLR, lands distribution deal.

I'm no pro, I've never shot a feature and I've certainly never worked with amazing actors... but I have to say, this film really doesn't look all that good. I'm surprised he got a deal out of it at all, I believe the acting to be very much below bad... and very cheesy.

But, this is just my personal opinion. I've never shot a feature (yet), so he's a step further than I am.

I agree, the film looks pretty bad...and much like the derivative reservoir dogs/lock stock style stuff that I tried to make as a teenager as well. But that being said, amazing for this kid...hopefully he can use this and turn it into getting bigger budgets and make it a career!

Same here. I'd say it looks close to Snatch (very similar music used for the trailer) and the character presentation is almost identical. I'm surprised too, as some other would have scream to rip-off or pale copy only by watching the trailer.

I second that. But on the other hand, I hope he won't get further with big budget and still producing stuff like that...that would be a waste.

Without going into anything about the trailer or product at all, I'd like to point out that nobody's saying what kind of deal, how much, so on and so forth. It's just a basic "kid gets distribution".

Remember: distribution is easy. Very easy. If you're willing to give your movie away just to say you got distribution.

When you start talking about reputable companies distributing your property, then that's a different story.

Hats off to the kid for making a movie, even though it looks like a total unoriginal derivative heist movie. Making a cohesive feature is a great accomplishment.

Denton Distribution is a tiny little company like the rest of the ones that buy films for little to nothing and never earn the filmmakers a penny. Landing a distribution deal isn't hard. There are piles of tiny companies that will gladly "distribute" your project. Landing one that actually equates to a decent return is more difficult. The success here isn't him "landing distribution". It's completing a feature at his age and with his resources.

It is nice that he shot this in 6 days but I don't see how the performances are good, didn't like it too much. Not a snatch fan at all... and something about the sound bothered me when it came to dialog. sounds like it wasn't mixed or treated... can't put my finger on it.

lol, i have two things in "distribution" as well. all that means is that a company will try to sell it in some way. i think our feature in dist. has netted something like 30 bucks in revenue for us for all of the internet and obscure channels they put it out on.

so lets be honest here, there is distribution, and then there's Distribution.

negative maybe, reality definitely

Haha. Really?
And why is everyone so red?
Ive seen much better short films on YouTube that have not made any money or have been distributed.

I don't want to hate on the kid at all, after all, he is just a teenager who's shot a feature on a very tight budget in a very short amount of time. But, it looks like a feature that was shot on a very tight budget in a short amount of time, by a kid.

I think his time and money would have been better spent on a short film. Better to have a banger 5 minutes rather than an amateur feature. Just my opinion of course.

I tried googling Denton Distribution. So far as I can tell, this is the only film that they've ever distributed. They have no website. All I could find was 3 postings on Tubmlr.

No, what he sold if anything was "his" story of the trials and tribulations of making a feature film for so little money in a tiny little fishing village where all he ever wanted was to chase his dreams and break out of his simple, and unspecular life...

Did he succeed? Will he prevail? Does he have enough determiniation to do it?

YES! Wow, look at that! A 15 year old completes a film in only 6 days! Only 6 days I tell you! It was not easy for the poor filmmaker who did not have alot of money or even speak english well - but he did it! He did it!!!

lol.... of course Cannes accepted it, and of course it landed a distribution deal... its the story behind the film that was sold, not the movie.

He wrote the script when he was 15 - "hich he had been working on since he was 15 years old"

he is actually 55 years old.

J/K - but he wrote it when he was 15 he looks like 19 or 20 now.

But still - he did something I haven't and I acknowledge his accomplishment.
