Techno Music in movies

Hi guys. I had a really important question I wanted to ask you all: What do you think of putting techno music in action/fight sequences? Techno/ rave music naturally pumps people up, and I was thinking that viewers might perceive a scene as really intense, simply because they are filled with adrenalin from the music. It works in nightclubs, and I dont see why It couldnt work here.
Any opinions would be great.

The Matrix movies did it (depending on your definition of techno) with good effect. I agree it's a style that can complement an action scene nicely, but like any music it can be misused, either vainly trying to prop up a weak scene or overpowering what's onscreen.

I prefer polka for action scenes.

But seriously, every film's different! There's no set rules.

I can't say I've done a serious study of the subject, but 'Run Lola Run' is often credited for really bringing techno to feature films in a big way.

If you call it techno in front of people like me you'd get slapped.

theres a difference between mid90s techno compared to what is being produced today.

I was kidding I wouldnt really slap you, but it's an offensive term to some people.

Id avoid any dance music or terrible nu metal riffs, if your making a serious piece of drama/action
I personally find it very irritating and a real ruiner of any fight scene or chase scene.

You are far better using straight heavy percussion to build tension, or if you want a more modern feel, something industrial, but again keep it minimal. if you want your audience to be in the moment, you don't want them to be dancing.

the Matrix is a bit of a rule breaker, but that type of 90s dance music will not age well at all.

Being from Detroit, I am of the opinion that Techno would work with any type of scene. But that is just me.

If it is properly done, and appropriate, Techno would be a perfect choice for an action scene.

Dude, Im a DJ. I know the difference, and probably everything there is to know about techno better than anyone here.....

I'm a big techno fan who doesn't care about the terms that other big techno fans (the snobby ones) throw around. To me, techno is techno, I don't care about "oh well this isn't techno see this is industrial electronic house blah blah." Yeah, ok, honestly... I don't put that much effort into music. I like it, or I don't, and to me it's all techno, it's just different kinds. Dance music is a type of techno music, i.e. techno with pop lyrics, basically. Maybe one day when I'm insanely bored and have nothing better to do I'll bother caring about the difference between the 287 types of electronic music. [And by the way the term "electronica" would you get slapped in front of me, that's a terrible word! I have no idea who coined that lame abomination of a word]

I think techno can be used very well in films, like in Collateral for instance. It's fantastic music, it just requires the right type of scene or film.

so you own a ipod nano and set it to shuffle at your friends party and you call yourself a DJ? That sounds about right.

Just cause you play sandstorm with some bass hunter at middle school dances doesnt mean you know dick about electronica.

Come on guys. It doesn't matter what you use, how expensive it is, or what brands it is. Who cares if you know how to label the right genres? There are so many damn sub-genres out there these days that I don't even bother anymore.

As for this thread, eh. Is Orchestral music good for my scene? Is techno? Is rap? I don't know. If the rest of the score has an electronic element, and it matches the tone and mood - then sure, it might make sense to put techno in the action sequences. But if the sole reason is just "get people pumped up", and it doesn't really fit with the rest of the film, it might seem stupid. But who knows. Whatever's right for the film and the scene. A bad music decision in a crucial scene can really destroy your movie.
