Technical question about footage type

What program or method do you use to look inside a video clip and see what exactly its specs are such as framerate, field dominance, all that stuff?

Also... this is kind of weird but when I open up a clip using the mac spacebar preview, it looks like this:

Why is that happening and what is causing it?

When I open it in quicktime player though.. it plays just fine. So which image should I believe? What does it actually look like?

quicktime then command I and it shows you all the info

The best app for what you are asking would probably be Gspot - but that's a Windows app (and a handy one at that). For Mac, you can try MediaInfo

Attached is a screenshot of the program analyzing an entry from MonsterFest. I can't comment on how accurate the info is though...
