I have been using Vegas 4 and Video Capture for at least 2 months on my new HP without a problem. Two weeks ago I encountered a problem with Capture. It would freeze and an error message would appear and make me shut down the program. I contacted Tech support 1 week ago. This is their response--

From looking into reports on the newer HP machine (your model included) and their integrated firewire port, it appears that the device is not being recognized in a standard fashion and we are unable to capture from that port. If your computer came with any other video capture software, we would suggest using that. If you would like a listing of supported firewire cards to use with our software, click here - http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/products/showproduct.asp?PID=914&FeatureID=7548&spid=263.

--This is LAZY if you ask me. How can he say to use someone elses software when Vegas has a problem. I let him know that I was angry! (I can't capture 24fps on other software)

ps. has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks-
Hodges

Re: TECH SUPPORT= POOR

if im not mistaken, i believe you can capture the dv/avi file with whatever program you want, and  import it into vegas,, bages will still recognize and pulldown to true 24p.. it doesnt have to do it at the time of capture..   or you could just buy a different non integrated/proprietary firewire card that is actually supported by vegas.

but!,  if you like i will walk over to matts desk and slap him for you.   :P

Re: TECH SUPPORT= POOR

You are correct Iamloser, you can capture with any program that captures type 2 dv. SCENALYZER works great, and so will any other capture utility for the PC. As far as hardware goes, sony can only support certain capture cards (fire wire) and it seems that your computer hardware is not listed as supported. You could get another Firewire card appx. $30 from any electronics store, and that would solve all of your problems right there.

Re: TECH SUPPORT= POOR

hey scharky do you use scenalyzer? I have come across that program a few times but never tried it. The 5 minute capture sounds appealing.

Re: TECH SUPPORT= POOR

Thanks for the replies. My point is that if I pay $500 for software I expect it to work. Plus, I have captured through this firewire port before without any trouble. I do not use my DVX as a capture device, so I do not think I would need a new chip. (sony didnt save my camera) ;)

Re: TECH SUPPORT= POOR

Jarred,
best 30bucks I ever spent. It is by far the most comprehensive and easiest to use capture program out there. It far surpasses Premier and Vegas in terms of scene detection and work flow. Great little program.
