Tech help: ERROR not a WinSock error

Charli

cool little "title"
So I was trying to update my scritpwriting software, Movie Magic, never had problems before, and then I get this:

ERROR: Not a WinSock error.

I then try to do a windows update and get the same thing. So I look up the phrase and I keep running into sites that want to charge me $29.95 to fix the problem.

I can use my script program without the update, but uh, what is up with my computer? I have Norton and did a full computer scan and only discovered one risk, both for virus and spyware.

This is another one of those days I want to toss the laptop out the window.

Any help? I can usually figure these things out myself. I feel like a dweeb.

How were you trying to update it? Did it open a browser window? I don't know the software enough to say. I've never heard the phrase before, but it sounds to me like something a programmer typed in for debugging purposes. How many times did you try, and how long between the first and last try? You have no networking problems other than the two mentioned?

I even just tried a 'regular' check internet update. Tried it several times. Nothing will update now. Never seen this before. Maybe I'll just switch out hard drives.

I did a : netsh winsock restart catalog
didn't work

Installed windows agent, it's already installed

I should have married a tech geek or a chef, life would be simplier.
