"Tearing" issues with 4k on Adobe CC 2014 (premiere)

All,

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing "tearing" issues with 4K files on the latest Adobe Premiere CC 2014 update. I'm using GPU acceleration on my system and it should be able to easily handle 4k footage. All files are .MP4 format UHD 3840x2160 100mbs. All files were captured on a Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb (95mbs class 10 SDHC I). I have confirmed that files themselves are NOT corrupt as playback on the GH4 shows clean files:

My system:

Windows 7 ultimate (64bit)
Gigabyte Ga z97x gaming 7 mobo
coolermaster CPU cooler
Intel core i7 4771 @3.5ghz
GeForce GTX 780ti (344.75)
16GB corsair DDR3 ram
Samsung 1tb SSD system drive
corsair 7x750m PSU

A few notes:
  • I AM using an all SSD workflow (system OS and applications all on Samsung 1TB SSD)
  • Editing SSD is 500GB Western Digital (I have tried files on both SSDs....same issues)
  • I mention the SSD's because there are some folks that swear AGAINST them in editing etc....
  • I'm seeing this happen in the SOURCE window....MOST of the time it translates into the sequence after render. Whats weird is that sometimes the rendered sequence file will have "tearing" in completely different areas than the source file!
Overall, i'm ready to throw in the towel with frustration. I'm reading about a lot of issues being reported with the latest CC 2014 update...with a lot of forum users saying that they are falling back to software rendering. the promise of Open CL computing and CUDA redering of 6k files on an off the shelf laptop is escaping me ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KplBC9qGtQE&list=UU_-cqgwZWV33QWJ1DGbjmfw )

Here is what I am seeing:

My first thought is a graphics driver issue. The last time I played with some GH4 media was on an older driver and I didn't see this issue.

What's the computer screen's resolution set to? Is that native?

Update to this thread:

After 2 weeks of frustration I could NOT find the cause of this issue. I couldn't successfully render projects without these artifacts. I tried almost everything to isolate the issue. I updated my bios, re installed drivers, reset all hardware etc. and I still got "digital tearing" problems. I noticed my entire system was behaving strangely (including some other applications I had installed) so I decided to bite the bullet and wipe-out and re-install Windows on BRAND NEW SSD to eliminate any possible hard drive issues. I even bought a new CPU cooler to make sure everything is cooled properly.

After bringing up a new Windows build and installing all updates and security essentials, I updated my bios and made sure I had the latest Nvidia and other system Drivers. At this point the system is stable from a desktop perspective. The only applications installed are Premiere CC2014.1 and Media Encoder (which have to be installed together) 3dMark and a very lightweight CPU temperature monitor.

After all that, I am running into the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. Which can only lead to me to conclude that there is something inherently wrong with my Nvidia 780ti Graphics card or the latest build of Premiere CC is having issues with the card.... or Premiere CC is flawed.

Does ANYONE here have any issues rendering h.264 UHD4K files in premiere?

Have you tried to disable the GPU acceleration temporarily?

Try and set your project setting to use software GPU acceleration/mercury playback and see if you still get the same result.

Or if you can upload a small file. I could see if I can re produce the error on either my MacBook Pro or Dell XPS. At least we can rule out if the actual clips are corrupt.

Surrender.

@ Ann Bens - Aero theme is set to "Windows 7" (forgot to mention that I had read about that issue and made sure that Aero was "on")

@ Surinder - Will try turning GPU acceleration off and doing a software render. I'll post results. Also, I'll try and upload and link to a raw .MP4 file ASAP. Please note though that the files aren't corrupt. I can confirm the quality of the file if I play back the file in the GH4 - it looks just fine...no tears or digital glitches. When I open in a premiere timeline however, I see the problems. Funny thing to mention here as well...When I close the project and re-open it, the glitches end up in a entirely different frame!!!

I have seen something very similar to this happening with some Sony F3 footage we shot last year. I had a copy of the footage as well as another member of my team who was editing. He sent me screen grabs insisting the footage was corrupt. We eventually determined that the tearing was showing up in different places on the timeline and the final render. I had the original footage still on the cards and couldn't reproduce the tearing issues on my end. I'll drop him a call tomorrow as I can't recall what the final resolution was to the problem. But we managed to fix it.

Will update tomorrow.

@surinder - I turned off GPU acceleration and rendered a 3840x2160 clip down to a 1080p mp4 file. Still the same "tearing issue". It lasts for about 10 frames total

Here is the raw mp4 of the same UHD4K clip straight out of the card. Feel free to download:

Just curious.....what happens if you play the rendered file on a different PC? Or burn it to DVD or Blu-Ray and play it on a player connected to a TV? (Maybe you've answered that already. If so, I apologize.)
