Taxi Driver 2?

A while ago I've read an article with a De Niro/Scorsese interview where they spoke about eventually making Taxi Driver II. It would be about Travis's elderly years. I've tried finding the original article but all I have found was this:

How incredible would this be and what better opportunity to re-unite the best director/actor combo ever?!

I think this is a horrible idea. I'd rather see Scorsese and De Niro collaborate on something new than risk sullying a classic film with a sequel. Follow ups of 70's classics have never turned out well; The Two Jakes, The Godfather III and The Star Wars prequels come to mind.

I hope this doesn't happen. Taxi Driver is my favorite movie of all time, and a sequel 32 years later just doesn't sound right. New York (and the world) has changed so much since then - almost everything that was compelling about the original is gone from New York. So you're left with the character in his late 50s living in overpriced, Disneyfied Manhattan? Not interested in the least.

The original was a complete thought. Hopefully Schrader, Scorcese, and De Niro will leave it alone.

I read an article where Scorsese said he, De Niro and Schrader got together in 1995 to discuss a sequel, and they all decided against it. I think it would be horrible if they tried to make a sequel. It's just unnecessary. The film already stands strong on its own. Perhaps I'm biased, since Taxi Driver is my all-time favorite film, but if film history has taught us anything, it's that sequels very seldom work, and they sometimes damper the way the original is viewed. Sure, you have the Godfather Part II, but could Taxi Driver 2 work over 30 years after the original, with Travis Bickle as an old man? Doesn't sound very appealing.

Touche'.

I mean, it's Scorsese. Have you ever seen a bad Scorsese movie? I'll do you one better...have you ever seen a bad Scorsese+De Niro movie?

Bad idea.

I hope this is a rumor and not even being considered. MOST sequels were never meant to be. This would sully a classic. However, you never know how much M-O-N-E-Y they (studio) may blindly throw at Scorsese & DeNiro.
Still, it might be DeNiro's choice between this or a sequel with Eddie Murphy.

There is no reason to make a sequel. I honestly dont think you can get much better than Taxi Driver. An attempt would only lessen the value.

A sequel would instantly ruin taxi driver for me. I've always held that Travis died at the end of the film. A sequel would void that theory pretty quick.
