Tascam DR-70D line-in test

Throwback

Here's quick and rather informal test for anyone interested in the line-level self-noise of the Tascam DR-70D, done using a Rode NT1a (for low self-noise) and Mixpre-D. I've compared it to a Sony M10 and to the Mixpre-d's digital output. Obviously most relevant to quiet sound sources (e.g. sound effects recording such as the watch ticking in this example), but hopefully might be useful to one or two people. To my ears the DR-70D is considerably better - in this regard - to the M10 and not very different to the digital output of the Mixpre-D.

By the way, beware of the loud 0db test tone at the start of each file (I normalized the files to 0db using the Mixpre-D's test tone [also used to match the DR-70D and M10 input levels], to boost the self-noise for comparison).

Cheers,

Roland
