Tascam DR-100 vs DR-680

I have had a DR-100 for about a week and really like it as an ultra portable field recorder. However, I am figuring out limitations that while they don't affect me currently, I can see them being issues down the road. Such as the DR-100 only accepting the single TRS line in vs the 4 XLR/TRS line-in inputs on the 680 (for future mixer compatibility), digital in/out, better on-board mixing, selectable phantom power, individual line/mic switching, etc. However, it loses the standalone/on board mic recorder capability and general portability. There is also a considerable difference in price although this is definitely not a deal killer.

My initial thought is to keep the DR-100 and buy a 680 (or whatever replaces it) when the need is there, however I would appreciate any comments.

FYI, my primary interest is in shooting nature/wildlife video where most of the audio will be background, possibly remote/wireless mics at some point in time and dubbed narrations.
