Tascam DR 100 - lost poer, lost file - is there a way to recover the file?

I was about 40 minutes into an interview with sound being recorded on my Tascam DR100 when the battery died. The file seems to be lost. There's a 0 kb file that shows up, but it doesn't play on the recorder, and when I copy the entire card to my computer it's still a 0kb file. Am I hoping against hope that there's someway to retrieve that file? I even ran a data recovery program to see if there were hidden files, but that didn't seem to work either. Are there any ways to retrieve those files? This is terribly disappointing, especially since the backup internal battery was fully charged at the time, but it was the AA batteries which ran out and caused the recorder to power down without warning.

I can't help you with your files but it sounds like the internal battery didn't take over as it should have. I just purchased the same unit off craigs list yesterday and it came with the manual. Go into the main menu and scroll down to battery. Set the Main battery option to Li-Ion, when this discharges it will automatically switch over to the AA batteries. I was looking at replacement Li-Ion batteries for this and Tascam prices are very high. Anywhere from 60 to 80 bucks. Came across some on the net for about 20 bucks. Anyone use them?
Hope this helps you.

I've used Piriform's free Recuva. You should do a 'deep search' by date. The 'lost' file(s) will likely have cryptic names and no extension, but the size should be similar to a standard WAVE file... if that was the recorder's format setting. You will likely have to add a <.raw> extension and open in audio software that supports the RAW <.raw> format like Sound Forge Pro.
I've recovered files from an acquaintance's H4n. Don't know about a Tascam but I would think the same would apply. Nor have I tried to recover files 'recoded' in formats other than WAVE.
