Tascam DR-100 Failing during recording.

Was filming a function over the weekend and was using my Tascam DR-100 to record some of the audio, I used with it a Sony UWP Lav kit just fine and then connected it to a mixer that was controlling a PA system. I've recorded the audio from a speaker using a microphone through the PA just fine in the past.

But twice in the evening I'd come back to find the record light not on a constant 'red' but flashing red with a write error message on it and no recorded audio, looking at the SD card on my mac I can see the file is there but broken and only something like 30kb in size. It also had a couple other bugs where after this it wouldn't record anything until I powered it off and then on again. The unit has been flawless thus far but this has been a real pain.

Anyone ever have this issue or better yet, managed to recover the lost audio track?

Have you tried a different SD card? I have had some generic SD cards fail in the way you describe. If the file size is only 30kb, I don't think there's any audio there to recover.

Memory cards can indeed fail and/or get corrupted.
Try re-formatting the card. It must be done in the recorder.
If in doubt, replace the card.

I tried two different cards and reformatted both inside the recorder, same thing happened on both.
Might buy a new card and do a few tests in any case.

One was the card that came with the unit, one was a no brand thing. I have a few Toshiba 16gb Class 10 which is on that list, I'll try that and see what happens.

Thanks for the link.
