Tascam DR-100 case

I bought the DR100 recently too and agree that the pouch is lacking. It has no compartment for keeping the cable and windscreen which, as we know, will eventually disappear if not kept with the recorder. But otherwise I've been very happy with this recorder.

Just looked up the Portabrace PMD661. $160 - cough. and no accessory pocket. There must be a little Lowepro case etc that would work. Let me know if anyone turns up another case idea for this size item. 3x6" and 1" thick.

Yeah I know its not the best but just giving you an idea. Wait are you wanting a case to carry it around or have a case you can wear and record with it?

You're right misscc803 that the portabrace may be a good choice for wearing and recording with. I'm just looking for a soft carry case with a strap and pocket. Not sure which the original poster was looking for.

Thanks for the responses... I minimally need a belt clip or something that will allow me to access the XLR inputs while I'm recording via shotgun mic (any way to put a clip into the tripod mount thread on the back?)

In case anyone is still following this thread, I also found this case made for a Fostex recorder. It's about 2" longer than the DR-100, but it has flaps that open for cables: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._Heavy_Duty_Carrying_Case.html#specifications and it's $19.00!

It's a tough size to fit isn't it? Most small camera cases are too square like the afore mentioned Domke. I think the ideal case would be about 6 x 3.5 x 2, with a pocket for the charge cord. I was just thinking, for recording where you want the ports exposed might not be hard to make some belt attachment to the tripod hole; so the whole thing is exposed on your belt. Just a bit difficult to see the levels.

It is a tough fit, Sneakle. I did link to a possible belt clip to attach in my previous post, but it would be nice to find something that offers a bit of protection from the elements. I am going to B & H today to ask the salesmen if I can try out the DR-100 in the Fostex case to see how it fits.

yea, if you've got B&H righ there you can take it and look and everything they have. Let me know if anything looks good to you.

Checked out the situation today at B & H, and the salesman was unable to even call up that fostex bag. Everytime he did (he tried twice), a different bag would come up. So be warned if you try to order it online... I did go to J & R which is also here in New York and was able to find a small camera case with a belt clip that had a standard tripod thread on top of it. I screwed the DR-100 into it and it fits well, but I'm a bit worried about the sturdiness of the set up (it's a vinyl "hard case" and the thread is held on by a retractable plastic hinge). I also emailed Tascam for suggestions, so we'll see. Hope this helps.

This older Domke lens bag is just about a perfect fit. It has a heavy duty belt loop on the back. It has enough depth to fit the neoprene bag and then just a little left over to carry the chord as well, maybe in a ziplock. I don't thinkg they make this bag anymore but here is a link to the newer model - a similar size, Domke F-505 Lens Case.
Here are some pix. One pix shows how the unit might be positioned for use by mounting a tripod screw in the top flap. I'm probably over thinking this case thing, to avoid doing actual work today.
