Tascam 680 power solution with IDX V-mount?

Does anyone know if I can power the Tascam 680 with a basic IDX plate or do I need exactly 12v out? The reason I ask is I happen to have one already.

If not, what is the best powering option?

I power mine thru my Alphamix which I have used IDX batteries. I'm thinking the Alphamix simply passes the power thru (with an internal circuit breaker), so I'll measure the voltage out when I get home but I don't think 14.4v will hurt the 680.

Great Thanks

Last time I put a meter to an IDX battery it measured over 16v BTW. I cant wait to hear what you measure

When using the IDX NP-23dx battery I'm measuring 12.9v coming out of the ALphamix at the DR-680 power plug. With a NP-1B battery, I'm measuring 14.7v.

Great Thanks

NP batteries eh?

Yeah I have V mount batteries. What I would really like to know is if I can simply run directly off the V mount plate into the 680. Anyone?

Just looked at the manual (on line, I don't own one) and it appears 12 volts or close to it is what you should be powering it with. Doesn't seem to indicate a range like other devices. I'd check with Tascam to be sure. I fried a Marantz 661 by putting too much power into it accidently so I'm wary.

Speaking of power, you might want to check out the Vagabond Mini inverter - Li-Io battery system from Paul Buff. The batteries are relatively inexpensive and the inverter is full wave, so clean power. I called about battery weight and the ship weight is 2lbs, so a bit more than a NP1, but more power also. Can't speak for the plug arrangement since it slides into a receiver on the inverter. At $89 for a battery, the price is right!
