Had the chance to see it today.
Was very intresting concept and emotionally moving.
Intresting mix of the super 8 and DV, plus its all documentry style. Wish he would have voiced over a narrative!

Really enjoyed the music element.

Re: Tarnation

Thanks for posting... Looks interesting enough, gonna have to see it

Re: Tarnation

Saw this a the Toronto Film Fest this year. Great story, but technically, it's horrible.

It was cut on iMovie. Need i say any more?

Re: Tarnation

It did look tragic technically I have to admit but there was intrigue for me in the concept. So maybe I'll wait for a few more reviews before I stick my coins in the slot

Re: Tarnation

I would have to say that I have the opposite opinion concerning iMovie. I thought it was impressive that it was done completely in iMovie, and then have the opportunity to be distributed in theatres.

In addition, the fact that almost all the footage was shot impromptu, and then put together years later as the basis for the film-- he created a narrative out of bits and pieces of his own, unchangeable life.

Re: Tarnation

I think some of us are made to be too much of a control freak and visual nerds to just be satisfied with iMovie. but then again, we're all spoiled by this technology. 8)

I appreciated this "movie." That's the best thing I can say about it. His story was ****ed up and depressing--not really the ingredients that make a great film. The structure was horrendous and way ameteurish to justify the accolades and success couette received.

Yeah, but it showed at the Toronto Film Festival.... need I say more?

However, the $280, iMovie version was not what everyone is seeing now, from what I have read. I understand that once Gus Van Sant came on board the film was cut down, with donated G-5 and FCP.

It's kinda like El Mariachi, yeah RR made it on $7500, to 3/4" video. How much did Columbia spend to get it to theatres?

I would like to see it, though. As a experimental documentary, I understand that it is not for everybody.

I think it's a great accomplisment in the sense that it was made on imovie and for less than $300, before music rights and prepping it for distribution.

I was going to buy it, but ran into it at blockbuster. Saw it was and am glad I didn't buy it. the film was boring and too something for me. can't find the words but weird i guess.

it would have worked better if it was a lot shorter.

definately will not be buying this dvd

I'll have to rent it on Netflix. It doesn't sound like something I'd want to own, but I'm definitely intrigued by it.

Okay, I just watched it (rented from Netflix). I thought it was brilliant. Yeah, it was depressing, but that was the story. Who gives **** if hed edited it on and Avid or in iMovie? He did a fantasyic job with the material he had. I think we need to think less about technology at times and think more about story, which is what made "tarnation" work, despite lack of of money and technlogy.

Cheers,

Josh
