Tapes!

I just purchased the DVX100A, and I should be getting it either tomorrow or Thursday. Anywho, what tapes are the best to get for the dvx100a? I'm looking at either JVC or Maxell, but does panasonic recommend a certain type or brand? I've heard that certain tapes can wear down heads quicker and generally suck the life out of your camera. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Whatever tapes you have the best access to. Then pick a brand and stick to it. I've used Sony tapes for years with no problems. Most users here use Panasonic tapes. I'd be willing to bet that Panasonic recommends Panasonic tapes. It has to do with switching between wet lube and dry lube tapes. So I say pick one and fall in love with it.

This may be chalked up to urban legend but for most it's not worth taking a chance.

The main ones I see used are the Sony's and Panasonic. The sony's are more widely carried and are pretty much the same price and the equivalent Panasonics. The sony premiums are dry lube and the Mq panasonics are as well. I still wouldn't switch brands though. I know for a fact that Ritz camera sells the sony's so that might be better depending on where you are

I've never used them except in my wifes cheap camcorder , but the sony's are so wide spread that I wouldn't have any reason to use them. Since I started with the sony's I still have a couple left so i'm going to use those up. Once those are done I'm going to get my head professionally cleaned then switch over to Panasonic. I received 10 free tapes from panny with my dvx and I've already bought 10 more so it's really up to personal preference.
