tapes: sony vs. panasonic

I just bought a bunch of sony minidv tapes for my dvx, but a friend mentioned that he has had some problems using sony tapes for a panasonic camera. Has anyone else heard this? Should i return the sony tapes and switch to panasonic tapes?

Which brand of tape did you use with the DVX before? If it's brand new then either brand works, but you should stick with only one. Your friend most likely mixed tapes in his camera which may cause capturing problems.

The reason you should never mix tapes is most manufacturers use a dry tape lubricant (including panasonic.) Sony uses wet lubricant. When these two combine they can create a pasty substance that can gum up your heads. I'd stick with panny tapes. Always use them, never had a problem.

****, i wish i would've known this before i started using my DVX!

If i've used more than one brand is there anything i can do now? will a simple head cleaner tape do the trick you think? I do have problems capturing sometimes, though it doesnt seem related (my TC jumps all over the place...?)
