Tapes for HVX

Generally the most common tape being used on the HVX by most of our clients are the Panasonic MQ's (AY-DVM63MQ - http://www.abelcine.com/store/product.php?productid=10019&cat=266&page=1 ) until they run out. Panasonic has officially replaced them with the "Advanced" AMQ's ( http://www.abelcine.com/store/product.php?productid=1000031&cat=266&page=1 ) which are a bit more expensive.

The most important factor is to try to continue with one tapestock once you start with it. Jumping around, especially between manufacturers can cause you some issues as each manufacturer generally uses different types of lubrication on their tapestock. Some use wet lube, others dry lube. Jumping around from tape to tape can cause your heads to start sticking with the mixtures of lubrication.

Jerrod is correct.

In addition, tape recycling isn't good either. If you have to, fine. Otherwise, we have found that customers generally get longer head life if they only use their tape once than if they recycle.

It's great if you recycle paper plastic and glass though! :)

Remember "Taping over Black?" Are we still supposed to do that? (You know, pu the lens cover on, hit record for the whole tape, then record your footage over that black now on the tape?)

Any answers would be greatly appeciated!

yikes, unless you know something i dont, I would say no way. It's digital, 1's and 0's. A chase scene or just black, data's data, and every time you record to that tape your increasing the risk for dropouts.

Haha. I like the "yikes" especially with that picture of the 50's dude. Thanks for the info.

Do I feel dumb for asking? Mmmmm-nope. Dat's why I'm a nubie!

That was a huge myth about Mini-DV, "stripe" you tape! Problem is, when a Mini-DV camera records, it just records, it doesn't track TC already on the tape, it writes new code from scratch.

Don't waste your time, it does nothing but wear down your cam faster.
