Tape Head Cleaner, which one would you guys recommend?

Hey DVXers,

I need a tape head cleaner, any recommendations or are they all pretty much the same?

Also, how long before I should take it in for a professional tape head cleaning? I've had it for over a year now, and no problems yet but would love to nip that in the bud.

Any info would be appreciated.

i used the PANASONIC DVM-CLA Mini DV Head Cleaner: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006JPWW/102-3260953-3913711

it won't take you long to find several posts from guys warning against head cleaning tapes. the cleaners are abrasive, so it should really be a last case scenario. that being said, after spending a day making calls i could not find anyone to professionally clean my heads, so i had to bite the bullet and order it.

i was having some serious issues after mixing wet and dry tapes (TAKE MY ADVICE - DON'T EVER DO THIS!!!). the only cleaner i could find was a sony (which is wet), and it had no effect. so, i had to order the panasonic online. fixed everything up, but from now on i'll be sending my camera off for maintenance every once in a while.
