Tape Error Message Help.

I received a mini-DV tape from a client to edit and I am having some challenges. I have tried the tape on 3 separate mini-DV cameras for capture. The first 2 showed only a black screen with no audio for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes the screen goes from black to blue, so I assume that something was recorded for 40 minutes. The third deck I tried gave me an error message ("Incorrect Tape Specification - Playback Is Restricted"), which I have never seen before. This message only appears on the section of the tape that shows up black on the other two decks. If I try to play on the third deck on the unrecorded portion of the tape, I get only the standard blue screen.

I am contacting the client to see if he can track down the camera it was shot on, so I can capture from that. But this seems like more than a head alignment issue.

Anyone have this problem before?
 
It may be a hdv recording? are your cameras hdv? because this happened to my once and that was the problem, it may not be in this case but just give it a try.
 
I found out it was shot on an HVR-Z1U, so it could have been shot on HDV. Now I am trying to find someone that has an HDV camera to do the capture.
