It took the better part of a year, but we finally did it -- our unique suspense/drama feature "Tangled Web" is now available to view online or purchase and download at Amazon.com's Video-On-Demand. SO EXCITED!!!!

Where's the papparazzi?????

Also, from a marketing point of view, is that ther is no trailer. You do get a a couple minutes of free preview, but it is the first couple minutes which happens to be the opening titles and credits in your film, so not really a preview. So other than a poster and synopsis, that's all the buyer gets before making their purchase decision. It would seem they would provide for a trailer at least.

Do you have a dedicated Tangled Web website with trailer? Since Amazon is really a fulfillment partner, you need to take on marketing and awareness campaign. Facebook? etc.? In this new world, you are the distributor, so you take on all that effort. About 7 years ago, I post produced a feature with lots of TV name stars, etc. and the production company eventually got it on Amazon. About a year later I asked how they were doing, and they were averaging 6 DVD copies a month. No marketing campaign behind it. I estimated 21 years to break even based on the budget. ;)

So, you really need to look at social and digital marketing campaigns to help people click and buy on this. So again, congrats on half the battle, getting the film made. Now the other half - getting it seen and purchased.

Yeah, I know what you're saying Michael. And thanks for the advice. I'm trying to work on that angle now.

I do have a dedicated website for 'Tangled Web', where there's pics and info and a trailer. I just need to do an update to the site before I put a link to it on Amazon. Right now it's cheaper to order the movie from my website, so I need to change that to bring it in line with the Amazon pricing. There's also a trailer on YouTube, which I could link.

I'm discovering that, as wide open as the web is, it's still hard to find ways to market a film without spending a chunk of money. I've got over 1,000 'friends' on Facebook, as well as over 300 on my 'Tangled Web' Facebook page. I've posted status updates on both. But you're right, a link would be a good idea. Trying to find other online avenues for promotion.

capitalP, I'd done a thread about 'Tangled Web' in the User Films section when it was first completed. Nobody seemed interested. I'll try to crank up a new one.

Thanks guys!

Michael is right as I'm sure you are aware, marketing is 99% the battle. LOL, well maybe not but if nobody knows your film exists then it doesn't exist... I'm toying around self-distributing my next film and I know I'm going to have to find a way to market it right.

Ever thought about maybe setting a little money aside to hire a PR marketing person? I don't mean those pros but a hungry indie PR person looking to put in some work, it can do wonders for you. I know some of the things they will do you'll be able to do yourself but you can't do everything, just a thought.

But I do wish you the best because I know even with the whole Social thing, it's still tough to get the word out there, because people are so bombarded with stuff they don't know where to go, hopefully half of those 1,000 friends you have on facebook will purchase the movie. Getting their friends to purchase it is the tough part. Hope you break even with this and even better make a profit.

I'll check out the thread for the film in the user film section for some tips how you got it to Amazon.

I'd love to have the cash to pay a good publicist. I'm wary of hiring someone un-tested and inexperienced, though. It seems like I ought to be able to do a lot of promotion of the movie myself. I just have to find the right places online to do it.

I'll try to get a thread going in User Films. Thanks!

Okay, can someone explain to me just WHY Amazon (Createspace) won't show me rentals or purchases of 'Tangled Web' for SIXTY DAYS after they happen??? What's wrong with this business model????

You know, that's the kind of thing you're supposed to find out before you give the film to Amazon (or anyone) to sell for you.

My sales agent gives me quarterly reports, so every three months, so 60 days is not that far out of the norm.

But Amazon's Video-On-Demand being an online, automated fulfillment service, why shouldn't it be able to deliver near real-time data? At least a count of units rented or sold. It just seems curious to me, that's all. My website host provides me with almost real-time traffic data. I don't know why Amazon couldn't as well.

I've sent their member support an email. We'll see what they say.

Meantime, EVERYBODY go to Amazon.com and rent or buy "Tangled Web"! :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
