I am Looking for the cheapest tripod that can reach around 9 to 10 feet tall or higher. I will be using it with the DVX100 and XL2. Fluid head is not that important as is hieght. Anyone know where I can find something similar to this?

you're talking about very expensive ENG tripods. you're better off going for a monopod, unless you got real deep pockets

I have a bogen model 5038, I think I can get it up as high as 9' Takes any of the bogen heads, 501 etc. It's rather old, I don't know if they still make it or not.

Get a 9' ladder at Home depot and but a high-hat on it. Strap it down with ratchet starps and put sand bags on the bottom rungs, works great and you can even see the viewfinder.

I've had the Bogen 3058 legs too to 17 years. All the video guys with their fancy carbon fiber $4000. stix laught at me untill I get in the mud, sand, clamp maffers to it, c clamp wood to it and sometimes rest my weight on it like a male poodle on a sofa. Then they shut up. DID I mention it is 9 feet tall ?

I've had a Arri 535 and a Vari on them in the last few weeks ... GO for the the Bogen

I bought a huge monitor (4'x4'x3.5) case. That takes me up an extra 3.5 feet and I can fit my tripod (DV-6L) fully extended and myself on the case. A step ladder is nice to use to get on the case.

Consider it your own personal podium, and no knucklehead is going to be up there with you shaking it during every good shot.

The main advantage is you can comfortally shoot up there for hours because you have a a catwalk around the pod to manuever on. it is also high enough set the tripod at a comfortable eye level height where you can get the best handling stance.

At events I set it up ahead of time and borrow a table cloth to throw over it so it looks in place. It has handles and requires a dolly to move as one person. Buy the aluminum ones that are built for rock bands or sports production not the plastic ones. They move too much, the case I am talking about does not ever move. The biggest trouble I have had with it is people like piling their drinks up on it, thinking it is a low table. They will even put drinks on it when I am up there with the pod and camera.

Another added benefit is that you can secure your stuff in it when you go away from your gear. It locks and there is no way anyone could just walk off with it, it would take two big guys to move it loaded with gear.

Bought it on Ebay used for around $75 and shipping was $45. There is a guy on ebay who sells nothing but used cases.
