Talking animals

I attempting to recreate diffrent visual effects i have seen around. right now i taped a baby turtle (through an out of focus tank, not the best footage but its just a test) with my XL2 (24P) i have a pretty decent shot of his head and mouth. My goal is to come out with the most realistically looking shot of him speaking. The way i was thinking of going about it would be to export a filmstrip file about 90 frames long and make a selection that fits his face and apply it to each frame and then take the voice over video and distort each selection to the corresponding face of the voice over. I'll put a screenshot of the turtle. This is obviously a tidies way of doing this. Is there any other possabilities, either a morphing program or could i do it easier in after effects?

Talking animals are done with 3D overlay compositing these days. Rotoscoping will take some serious time, but it can be done.

I've used an After Effects training DVD that adresses that very thing. There's an animation technique that can be done several different ways. Usually very meticulous. You can draw the mouth's doing all of the different vowels and constanants. You mark the audio and start pasting. The other way is to have an actor do the lines to canmera, and paste the mouth on. Orrr you can do a combination of graphic mouth's and some warping of the original image.

let us know how it goes.

i did someting similar to this with a stuffed monkey a while back.. i composited "my un mout" on the monkey and just color corrected to match with a soft edged mask.. it turned out really well, in fact too well for what i did it for, so i had to go back and make it look alot more amaturish later.
