Talk me in, or out of this HMI

Looks good to me. Just make sure you can get globes. It's not client bait but what the heck. I picked up an ArriSun 1.2k par with a magnetic ballast at an auction. It's not for everyone but I'm glad I have it. Works great

If you're willing to deal with a magnetic ballast for that high of a price, go for it. I will say that my magnetic HMI's all cost me a small fraction of that price so I personally wouldn't even consider paying that much since I don't need them that bad and since nobody uses or rents magnetic ballasts anymore. They can be nice to have though, for low budget gigs.

The only drawback to a mag ballast is the weight and size compared to electronic ones, and some of the old LTM ballasts were huge and used a non-standard connector for the head cable. I also noticed from their listing (Q&A section) that the unit uses an older style lamp that might be more expensive and more difficult to find.

It's had a pretty hard life, though = the ballast looks like it's done a few miles unprotected! $800 seems a lot of money to me for something beyond it's sell by date - and a seller who's a bit unclear about what it is or does?

Mag ballast quiet all long (unless the ballast is old) = worst case scenario you have to move the ballast away from the set if it hums due to age
Electronic ballast = buzz at the head

Don't diss mag ballasts - they are reliable and useful in some situations.
[I own both and bring both on all my sets]
