Taking pictures vs. recordings (freeze frames)?

When working with a camcorder vs. a digital camera I’ve noted that when I take pictures with the camera the objects always seem to be more narrow/elongated then on the camcorder recordings (even when compared to the freeze frames). Why is that? Shouldn’t they both be the same if the lighting or angle hasn’t changed, and i'm using the same lenses? Sorry if this does not make sense but I have always wondered about this and am very curious for the reasoning.
