Take a seat

One thing Im missing in my kit is a stool/chair

I guess I could mount it on..

-the ground
-a plywood dolly
-my rickshaw (http://framedogs.com/camera-rickshaw/)

I guess there is a choice between as straight circular 'drummers stool' or something with a backrest like this..

Do people have thoughts?

Also on mounting, I guess I could use a selection of scaffolding tubes via

Or more ideally adjust height with a big thread/lock mechanism like a drum stool?

Any commercial products worth checking?

Thanks for your thoughts

This might give you some ideas. I started this but never finished a stool that could be placed anywhere on a dolly. The rod is supposed to be welded to the stool receiver. Then the stool can be placed anywhere, even outside the boundaries of the plywood. It is supposed to have a bolt that locks the rod to the plywood receiver. The receiver can be placed in any hole. This is the stool - https://www.harborfreight.com/pneumatic-adjustable-roller-seat-46319.html

For what kinds of situations? Sitting during a long interview or live presentation, or riding on a dolly? If the former, the DJ stools ($75-120 USD) seem appealing to me...cushioning for your arse, and back support for your barse. Most come apart into two pieces, somewhat easier to transport. Then there's the simple folding barstools from Ikea...$40, they sit up high, would not call them comfortable. I got an extra cushion for use with mine, but it's still very weird.

Situations?

Thats the thing I want multiple situations.. ride dolly or just sticks/shoulder a simple stool would do but on the rickshaw I feel a back support may help as there are more Gs.

The one thing I dont really do is hours at a show or conference.

Obviously I want to keep it minimal to keep the van free of gump - maybe the backrest for the rickshaw is a seperate item.

Great thread! Thanks! I've been looking for a seat solution too. In the back of my van I'm planning a temporary plywood floor that will be used when shooting remote controlled from the van. I want some type of padded seat with a padded back that can be attached to the wood floor. Any ideas?

Tripod seats pack up small, but don't give much support - https://www.fashionablecanes.com/90329.html

This thing is multipurpose and packs flat (table, step-stool, seat). They make a taller one. Put a cushion on it for long sits. https://www.amazon.com/Acko-Folding...&pf_rd_p=e949ee0a-264d-54ad-84ec-c68d507445ae

ha, I bought one of these (similar) like 5 years ago...still works.

So, I ended up ordering two a few weeks ago from Amazon. An 18", which is about normal chair height and an 11". I was on a shoot last week and showed them to the other photog/DP while we were waiting around for one of the interview subjects, and he ordered one on Amazon on his phone right there. They fold up so small that they just live in the back of my truck, now. I did buy one of those nice apple box seat cushions the other year, but they don't fit that well(almost impossible to get on a nesting set) and I never carry apple boxes around unless I know that I'm going to need them/use them. I can probably count the number of times on one hand, and have fingers left over, that I carry apple boxes to a shoot.
