Tacam HD-P2 Settings

Picked up the HD-P2

Curious about the project settings for the framerate. Should I set this at 23.975 if I'm shooting 24p or leave it at 30?

If I shoot 24p & have the settings on the HD-P2 set at 30, will my audio speed be off when I sync in post?

If someone experienced with this feature could enlighten me on exactly the purpose of the audio framerate settings, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

P.S. I'm shooting with the DVX-not film

Steve, you should have your Tascam set to 23.976 or 29.97 if operating in an NTSC country. Slate every take, keep sound logs (i.e. File002 = Scene43a, Take4) to help your editor, and if you want, get an external TC generator into an audio input on the DVX and the TC input on the Tascam if you want to get really fancy.

The first feature I did as a baby sound man was shot on a DVX. I recorded sound into a tiny portable audio recorder without any timecode and it sync'd just fine.

Timecode has nothing to do with speed, that's sample rate. Think of timecode as a way of dividing seconds. One second in 23.976 is still one second. One second in 29.97 is still one second. They're just sliced differently.
