Workflow: systems- Resolve - Raw

John Brawley says he is using a 17'' quad I7s MBP and says it chugs right along. Looking into the same machine to update my older 17'' 2.5 core 2 duo. Im just hoping my older 2.6 quad Mac Pro will do alright. Im thinking I might have to update the video card...

it doesn't quite do realtime playback from the SSD in resolve. BMD told me that it probably would if the SYSTEM drive was also SSD.

It's fast enough for me to run resolve and to grade though.

If you want a "close to as I can get - without paying for a real grading monitor solution" - cant go past the Panasonic Neo Plasma Panels. Absolutely by far the best for this kind of thing. Serve the image via a blackmagic HDMI card straight to TV. The TV for a charge can be pretty well calibrated or you can teach yourself to get it close. 100% accurate? No, but not far from it.

I use a panasonic pro plasma, and JVC CRT DTV monitor both via HD-SDI (I like a balance). My plasma is out of whack right at this point of time - and with little time to recalibrate, I was still able to pump out a TVC on this system.

I've also been thinking of getting a relativly small, say 40" top-end plasma TV for grading, such as one of the Panny V or VT series which are THX certified, but they ain't cheap. Still cheaper than a grading monitor though

I use the 42" GT25 for my main desktop display.

Those Quadro cards I bet are super pricey. But GAMING CARDS should run this, even out of spec right? Lets find prebuilt laptops and workstations, with high end gaming cards, that can run resolve, DNG, and 3d like butter!

I don't know how many folk are running dual video cards in SLI (I do), but yeah there is big difference from a single card and I assume that's not been covered by the spec. As an option this can be significantly less expensive than a single card.
