System requirements for AVC-I editing with FCP6

Hello there,

I'm just about to upgrade from FCPS1 to FCPS2 (FCP6) as I've recently got a film to edit that was shot on a Panasonic HPX3000, AVC-Intra 100, and P2 cards. My question is - has anyone done this on a non-Mac Pro?

The Apple website says that a Mac Pro is a requirement for AVC editing (I know it's actually converted to Prores). But I don't want to upgrade if I'm going to find out I can't edit it. I've done various HD editing on my iMac (2Ghz, 2GB RAM), I know it's not the quickest but it does the job, and this job shouldn't be fx heavy so it shouldn't be too processor intensive.....

Regards,
Ken.

You must have an Intel Mac in order to convert AVCIntra to ProRes. A non-intel cannot do this. It isn't the editing that is the issue, it is the converting.

Thanks Shane, my iMac is Intel so I shouldn't have a problem there, it's just whether it is powerful enough.
