Sync'ing double system sound w/ timecode

I posted this originally in the Final Cut forum but not having much luck
in getting an answer.

Is it possible to sync double system (separate) sound in FCP
with time code stamped wav's and a time code slate?

In telecine, they can just freeze the picture on any frame of film with the slate
in it, punch in the time code number on the screen, it goes and finds the audio file with that time code..ya move on.

Ive been told a few times there is no way to do such a thing in FCP
and you have no choice but to sync every take by hand using the sticks.

Is this true?
If the regular way to do this is impossible are there any work arounds?

Im not an editor nor do I know FCP but it would help to sell double system
audio to clients if it wasn't such a time consuming process by hand.

I assume it would be easier if the audio recorder was jammed to the camera timecode but im interested
more in "film style". Recorder and slate have the same timecode and no timecode from camera or to camera at all.

Thanks guys

There is no way, other than manually, to sync up clips in FCP. I have heard of the product that you have linked to Noiz but I have no idea if it actually works or how well it works.

Figures.
Can any of the typical desktop video editors do this presently?

MIxed double system to a Red a little while ago jamming both the Red and my HD-P2.

The timecoded written audio clips lined up perfectly with the video in my copy of Vegas and in the editors copy of Premier Pro. I didn't try it in FCP.

good to know.
Did you just jam and disconnect? or a lockit box? or stay connected? or?

Everytime ive used the red (1 feature numerous commercials)the camera dept barely lets us hang a comtek on it
for reference let alone a lockit..etc and because of the issues with timecode on batt changes and power downs we always treat it like film

timecode slate jammed to recorder and thats it.

This is the main camera im asking this question for, because i can see in the near future people starting to just request
audio to camera and NO double system.

The feature I did, i know they manually used the sticks to sync, the commercials i have no idea if they used the timecode slate or just the sticks..

This would also be a nice thing to offer for the smaller format cams as well, that dont have a timecode option
But the reality is most post places dont want to bother with double system if its ANY kind of pain.

We jammed the Red anytime it was turned off and on and the same for the HD-P2. I also tried to jam the HD-P2 every hour just to be sure. We use the Aaton Origin C to jam.

Regarding the camera crew. The director was adamant about timecode so the AC was very cooperative.

My experience on large budget HD shoots is that the timecode is run by wire to the DIT for the entire shoot.

Just for future reference (if someone searches this topic)

As told to me in another thread the following works perfectly.

Open the clip in preview and select a frame where the timecode slate is in frame with numbers moving and freeze on any frame.

Open timecode aux 1 and type in the number you see on the slate into that box in FCP.

Then find your audio file in your bin that should go with that file and highlight it.
(find it either by file name or timecode length/start)

With both video and audio highlighted click "merge clip"
and from that menu choose
"merge using timecode aux 1"

Boom, you are now in sync ready to go.
