Does anyone know what kind of hardware, etc. is needed to hook up a DAT machine to FCPHD in order to sync up dialog tracks to footage shot with the dvx100?

You will need an RS-422 cable and a Mac serial connection running with a Timecode DAT. These can be purchased at www.addenda.com

or

You can also transfer your timecode DAT to DVCam tape, making sure you make this dub while transferring the timecode over to the DVCam tape (most post houses can do this no problem)....now, just capture like any other DVCam via firewire...depending on how many DAT tapes you have this may be a quicker solution than tha costs of installing the RS-422 cable and serial Mac connection...

If you don't have timecoded DAT that matches your cameras TC, you could get a reasonably priced sound card with a SPDIF connection and capture your audio first, then sync it up manually in FCP. Keeping it digital is pretty important because I'm sure the reason you went DAT in the first place was for quality.

Pretty new to this site and have been away from the computer a long time. Thanks so much for the feedback and info. I'm gonna' try the dvcam route I think first. However, the dvx100 doesn't record dvcam, right? or does it?

Thanks for all your help. I'm helping on a project that has a whole slew of dat tapes. Will take all these ideas/options into consideration.
