Syncing Dailies in FCP

Hey everyone. In the past I've used two methods for syncing dailies from an external recorder to a recorded slate when editing in FCP -

one was utilizing fcp's built in markers and snapping the externally recorded audio to the marker snap on the track recorded on the cameras audio track (matching waveform transients audibly and visibly, essentially, which has given me a really close match at times)

the other was completely muting the audio on the in-camera track and using the in-point cut/snap method described in the FCP Manual to locate the visible slate close frame to the snap sound (pretty stanard "film style" method across the board).

In both methods I've then merged or nested the audio (depending on the situation)

Does anyone have any other tricks that make the dailies workflow easier in FCP? I've found that there are so many ways to do everything in every NLE that I can't possibly know all the super nifty tricks. Thanks in advance!
