Syncing Audio+Video Clips in Timeline

Hello FCPX-Users

Last week we shot a little movie with two cameras. We recorded some HQ-Audio directly to GarageBand (stupid idea - don't do it!). Anyway, i exported the audio from GarageBand as a long audio-file (all takes in one file), since you cannot export the recorded-audiclips as single files (or only with a tremendous amount of work). Now my problem is that FCPX won't sync the videoclips correctly to the long audiofile. So I took the audiofile into the timeline and made a cut after everey take. But this single audioclips now only exist on the timeline. Is there a way I can sync these clips to the videos in the event browser? Tried the demo of plural eyes, but that cuases issues too. Any other ideas?

Have you tried selecting the clips (audio and video) in the event browser and then go to the clip menu and selecting the synchronize clips choice (command+option+G). Be warned that it may take a long time if you have long clips. It helps if you manually align the clips using the audio waveforms to get them close to what you want. I was surprised at the time it took when I synched the first time. For short clips it happens quickly. For longer clips it can take a while.

Good luck!

Smart-ass. But at least you had your moment.

He's not being a smartass. He's telling you the correct way to shoot if you need to synch audio later. These tools have been developed for a reason. If you had slated and clapped, you'd be fine now.

Have tried that, didn't work. Problem is that in some takes the sound guy stopped recording a little bit earlier than the camera operators did. since all audio-takes are in one single file the longer video-files would "overlap" if synced to the audio (and obviously fcpx cant handle this situation correctly). But thanks anyway!

Seems that i have to sync manually.

And BTW: we actually did use a clapboard. What we didn't do was writing each number of take on it (for some stupid reason i can't justify). But since i didn't ask what I missed while shooting, comments like No. 2 on this thread are kind of smartass or arrogant. There's a reason I posted this on the FCPX section of dvxuser and not in the filmmaking-section...

If your video clips have what you need, just sync each one individually to your audio clip using the method described by BillinSC. That will effectively spilit-out your audio file once again.
